ONE DOWN, THREE TO GO …..

Several years ago, I formed an informal club with myself and my three favorite “entertainers,” all over 90 years old. The other day, one member of my club died, namely Robert Duvall. Duvall was 94 when he handed in his spurs. A great movie actor, indeed!
The remaining members of my special “over 90” club are Willie Nelson, who is about 95, and Bob Cousey, who is an incredible 98. I myself, the “Junior” member of the club, am 93. So I am sitting here admiring my fellow club members and hoping to see them when my time comes.
Willie is, of course, extremely well known and loved, and his passing will be a great loss to the entertainment world. I have been a fan of Willie since around 1990, when he produced “The Red Headed Stranger” album. Although I love his voice and guitar, what I admire most is his willingness to shift his career mid-stream and become a Western music icon.
The “Cuz” has been my basketball hero since I first read about him in a sports magazine back in 1950. After a successful college career at Holy Cross, Cousey became the point guard and spiritual captain of the Boston Celtics, a role he held for about 12 years during which they won multiple NBA Championships. If you’ve never seen the “Cuz” in action, you owe it to yourself—and to me—to get on the internet and check out his exceptional passing and shooting skills. He was the best point guard in the game until Pete Maravich and Steph Curry came along.
So, these are my spiritual “brothers” in the entertainment game of life. To be sure, I have yet to find my niche in that game, but you can be assured I am still looking for a way in. Of course, I do not know which of my remaining three all-time entertainers will depart next, but I think it’s likely to be me since I am the youngest entertainer of the lot. All I have to do now is find a way to become an entertainer. Any and all suggestions will be given serious consideration. Thanks for listening. :O)
