IN CASE YOU HAVE NOT NOTICED….

My all-time favorite basketball player is Steph Curry. It’s not only because he has set many scoring records and led his team, the San Francisco Warriors, to a couple of NBA championships. It is primarily because he came out of nowhere as a skinny little kid playing for the unknown Davidson College and was left undrafted by everyone in the NBA except the Warriors, even though he had led his Davidson team deep into the NCAA championship tournament as a senior in college.
The really amazing thing about Curry is that he continued to improve over the years after becoming a professional. In addition to becoming a first-rate passer, Steph began to improve as a shooter. He not only brought unbounded energy and enthusiasm to every game, but he slowly became the team’s primary scorer. All this while becoming one of the leading scorers in the NBA. It was not long before “The City” Warriors won a couple of NBA championships, led by Steph.
After several years in the league, Steph began to rise as the number one three-point shooter. Indeed, he slowly became the best three-point scorer in the history of the league. In fact, he soon began to close in on the NBA record as the greatest three-point shooter in the history of the entire game. Now, every three-pointer he makes sets a new record in that department. Along the way, of course, he was on his way to becoming one of the greatest shooters of all time. It is uncanny to watch him throw up what clearly look like desperation shots, only to have them slip beautifully through the net. A sure “Hall of Famer”.
One last thing. Many years before, while I was visiting various colleges promoting a “semester abroad” program for an organization called “BorderLinks,” I was introduced to a room of undergraduates. My guide pointed to a small, smiling young guy and said: “That’s Steph Curry, our number one basketball player.” Steph grinned and waved to me. I waved back, and, as they say, “the rest is history.” And, indeed, it has become so. I still root for my “friend” Steph.
