BIDEN WILL WIN THE PRESIDENCY AGAIN

I will go out on a limb here and now and predict that Joe Biden will win re-election this coming November. There are three reasons that lead me to this early conclusion, which of course presupposes that he will remain relatively healthy.

My first reason is that it is becoming clear that Trump’s campaign will stumble and fold because of all the legal problems he has made for himself. At least one of these problems will snag him and make him ineligible to run for the Presidency. Also, as time goes bye the American people will slowly become suspicious of Trump’s moral and rational capacities and thus lose interest in him as a candidate for the Presidency. It is obvious that Trump is a sick and evil person.

My second reason for this prediction is simply that President Biden has always been a political winner. He has shown that he has the style and techniques that make him effective when dealing with the American political process. Moreover, he has shown our world allies that America will support them when push comes to shove on the international scene. Time and time again Biden has proven himself capable of dealing with political and international challenges. People actually like and respect President Biden as a person. In addition, Biden has stepped up for those who are struggling for democracy around the world.

Thirdly, as any serious glance at what Biden’s administration has done in recent months in the financial and employment arenas will show, the situation of the American people over the past year has greatly improved. The stock market is going strong, and unemployment is way down. People will slowly come to see that the Biden administration has delivered for the country in these key areas. For all of his short-comings and problems with aging, Biden is far and away our best Presidential choice this time around. He can be trusted as a person and as a President.

Finally, the Republicans are too mindless and selfish to offer any other candidate than Trump. It is actually unfathomable how and why they simply refuse to set trump aside. Once again, they will lose because of this malady. They even let him make decisions for their party when he isn’t really as member of it. The party is too weak and fractioned to do anything to stop trump from being their candidate. It is actually downright embarrassing.

I will admit that this prediction is based on a good deal of Democratic bias and favoritism. My Grandfather ran and won for City treasure of our town on the Roosevelt ticket four times during the 1930’s and 40s. President Roosevelt has always held a special place in my heart and mind for how he and Churchill beat Hitler and Japan in World War Two. To some degree my prediction is really a hope for this tradition to be continued. At the same time, however, I really think Biden is by far the best person for the Presidency this time around.

My prediction also arises out of the great sorrow and frustration that have come to myself and our nation as a result of the catastrophe caused by Trump’s years of dominating our political culture. It has been a sickness that we so need to get beyond. Biden can and will be the bridge leading us out of this mess. The American people are beginning to acknowledge what a catastrophe it was to ever elect trump in the first place. His sickness has spread throughout the weird Republican party and our nation. This why we need and will get President Biden.

  1. You forgot a fourth reason – Taylor Swift.

I’m hoping you are correct in your prediction. However, your prediction is partly based on the reasonableness and seriousness of the voting public – a third of which (which eludes me) do not care – nor believe – any evidence of Trump’s ineptitude, wrongdoing, or extreme egocentric motivations. Indeed, such evidence only seems to confirm for them the vast deep state conspiracy and solidify their support.
Also, their positions are bolstered (indeed, dare I say, manufactured for them) by “news” networks, radio talk-show hosts, and unfiltered social media posts unfortunately undeterred by large defamation penalties for lying. They seem to have chalked up such fiscal losses as the price for doing business and keep their audiences on a steady diet of contrarian commentary, populists propaganda, and delusional conspiracy theories. The lesson of the Dominion judgments was not to stop lying, but to do it better and without any possibility of liability. (Stop internal paper trails and throw any expendable texters or emailers under the bus so they may re-emerge as toxic podcasters.)

Let’s imagine at least one third of the rest of the voting public is secure in Biden’s camp (although, I am not sure this is a given).

That assumes the last third are swing voters. This includes the usual plethora of perspectives (like youth, Latinos, African-American, suburban, etc.) My concern here – from numerous debates with my son and his college classmates (Note: my son spearheaded the drive for voter registration at his college that was credited with turning a perennial red district blue for a fairly recent house race) as well as other young adults – is the tendency for uncompromising self interest or Quixotic belief in immediate righteous outcomes.
Troubling phrases like “Biden is too old,” or “He is on the wrong side of the Palestinian issue” or “he didn’t do enough for student loan relief” or “he didn’t do enough for…” fill in the blank. Their possible plans for the upcoming presidential election are alarming to me. Either they will not vote, or they will choose a third party candidate who sits astride the Rocinante of their righteous views and tilts at windmills.

Fortunately, I have made some headway with the lesser of two evils argument, that I think you once talked about in class years ago.

In my conversations I usually confirm the righteousness of the outcomes they prefer, and admire their desire to take a stand on an issue or issues that they value. However, regardless of the righteousness of their outcome, process is important. Alamo stands are heroic but rarely succeed. The process of moving toward a righteous goal may actually assure a more lasting outcome as you convince more people along the way. In the meantime, if you believe be candidate gets you a little closer to your goal than the other; if you believe one candidate is “less evil” than the other, then please choose the lesser of two evils. Wouldn’t it be better to have less evil than more evil. Not voting, or voting for a predictable failed third candidate is only voting for the person you have clearly defined as more evil.
(Like Voldemort, I prefer to refer to him as “he who must not be named. ).

Again, I hope you are right but these are my concerns, and what have defined my mission for getting people to vote.

    I didn’t realize I ranted this long.
    My apologies.
BTW – I love the posts that recount your life stories. I love your other posts as well. I feel like you are stil teaching and drawing us into the important dialogues of life and existence. If I haven’t already said it before I’ll say it now: my first class with you was a transformative experience. You made us all feel that our perspectives and voices were important contributions to the ongoing discourse of history. You valued each one of us and our stories. I’ve tried to emulate that in all my encounters in what I have done over the years.

I wasn’t the sharpest knife in your drawer, but you helped me find my way – and are still helping. Thank you!

    • Dennis – you share my concerns about the irrationality and silliness of so many “talkers” – fortunately (I think) I believe most of that sort of bravado will fade as people do get a continuing look at Trupmeters empty bravado, etc. No apologies necessary – Just like last time (when Biden won two to one) when push comes to shove Americans will rise to the occasion – at least this is what I hope and believe. Dennis – I hardly know how to ingest your kind and grateful comments about our learning experiences together. I assure you, the feeling is mutual from me to you and your wonderful classmates over the years. The gift of your friendships is still the richest reward anyone could ever receive. Love, jerry

  2. I agree with everything Dennis said—about the election, about your posts, and the influence you had and still have as a teacher!

    • Hey Gary – thanks for speaking up :O) You would really like Dennis – soccer and baseball player from Philly, Baptist minister in the up-East area, father of several wonderful children. I am somewhat optimistic but I also think these trends from the last election will repeat themselves. I want Trump to win his nomination so he can lose yet again. But I would not be surprised if he is removed from the ballot or gets really sick and/or dies. He’s hurt the world enough already. Thanks for reading and participating in the Whitehead class. More to come :O) Paz, jerry

  3. I think the oil cabal will spike the gas price and the rich will remember where that $2,000,000,000,000 tax gift came from. They will act accordingly and swamp the last months, weeks, days, and even hours before the vote. With A.I., they have so much more power to effect the individual voter.

I hope not, of course, but…

“I may be wrong now, but I don’t think so.” ‘It’s a Jungle Out Here’ by Randy Newman (theme to TV’s Monk series).

Best to you and Mari too.

    Paz y luz,
    Steve

    • Hey Steve – we go way back :O) So good to hear from you. I think Biden knows how to defeat those bums :O) Keep on swinging my man Paz, jer

  4. I love your optimism!

Despite what I see in the Democratic party and its leadership as a deep disingenuousness, support for the unnecessary use of violence, abandonment of already-inadequate promises about environmental policy, strong anti-democratic tendencies, and much more to criticize…

… I agree that in this situation, given that 1. Biden is the DNC candidate, and that 2. in a contest with Trump, Biden is the most practical choice (as Dennis said, “the lesser of two evils argument”). While I am pleased about some of the aspects of the Biden administration you cite, I would jump at a chance to elect a progressive — at least someone with a sense of environmental vision and responsibility. But, as when the DNC anti-democratically broke with the will of the people, choosing Hilary over Bernie, the DNC doesn’t need to listen to the heart-beat of the rank-and-file now either: They can take advantage of anti-Trumpism at the ballot box. Hopefully that’s enough to get enough of our votes this time around. Either way, they need to do better.

    🤞🏻

    • You are s0m ri9ght Brendan !! They do need to do better. I think Biden has become increasingly confused of late but i think he will make through the election and then turn the job over to Harris – which has its own perils but still gets us past whats his name !!! Biden has done some about the environment but not nearly enough. Paz, jerry
