How Did We Get Into This Mess???
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the recent history of the Three-Part balance of power among the key dimensions of our government structure. You remember memorizing the three branches of government in Grade School: the Legislative, the Judiciary, and the Executive powers that control our beautifully designed democracy. Over about 200 years, this balance of power worked quite well—until, that is, Donnie Trump arrived on the scene. He promptly appointed several of his cronies to the Supreme Court and then began attacking the other two branches of our government. He gerrymandered the Republican party into being his servile tool and now has gone wild with his other governmental appointments, challenging the federal court system. Now he is busy trying to gerrymander the voting systems of several key states to control congressional elections for longer than originally intended.
As you know, all of this selfish and evil behavior has essentially allowed him to take control of our Democratic Government system. Both the Republican Party and the Supreme Court are in Trump’s pocket. It’s almost impossible to imagine how this triangle of evil can ever be overcome. Regular democratic participation no longer seems effective. Even the head of the Supreme Court, Justice Roberts, who used to be a symbol of fairness and wisdom, has succumbed to the Trumpian monarchical call. Why the Constitutional experts set no term limits on Supreme Court Justices’ tenure is beyond me. No one should hold such power for life. Perhaps all we can do is pray for a plague or a war to destroy this beast, or maybe hope for a few timely deaths.
